Welcome to Light the Mind Counselling & Psychotherapy!  

My name is Heejin Kim and I use pronouns she/her. I’m an uninvited guest in the stolen territories of the the Coast Salish peoples (xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-waututh) Nations), colonially known as Vancouver, BC.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), and a certified facilitator of the Circle of Security Parenting Program (COSP). Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds in a variety of settings, including community organizations, universities, and outpatient mental health services.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of British Columbia. I continue to deepen my practice through advanced training, research, and supervision.

At Light the Mind, I offer virtual counselling and psychotherapy for adults through a secure, encrypted video platform.

Services are available in both English and Korean.

Our goal is to support and empower you to transform your relationship with yourself and others by uncovering your inner strengths, aligning with your values, and letting go of beliefs and behaviours that no longer serve you.

Services

I offer individual virtual counselling/psychotherapy sessions for adults using a secure, encrypted, and HIPPA compliant medical videoconferencing system (Zoom or doxy.me)

Currently, evening appointments on weekdays and morning appointments on Saturdays are available.

Rates

I charge $152.25 per 50-minute individual session. Fee is in line with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors’ fee schedule

Payment will be accepted at the beginning of each session in the form of Interac e-transfer and receipts will be emailed to you within 24 hours of your appointments.

Cancellation Policy

As your appointment is reserved exclusively for you, please provide 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, the regular appointment fee will be charged except in case of emergency.

Coverage

Clinical counselling/psychological service is not covered by Medical Service Plan (MSP), but most extended health plans cover clinical counselling provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) such as myself for up to a certain amount. Please contact your insurance provider for more information regarding coverage and reimbursement.



My Approach

 

My role as a counsellor and psychotherapist is to listen with empathy and without judgment, and to work collaboratively with you to support your journey toward healing, change, and growth.

 

I approach this work through a humanistic and trauma-informed lens to this work, recognizing you as an expert of your own life and lived experience and being mindful of how experiences that overwhelm your internal resources can impact your capacity to process and cope. I strive to create a space where those experiences can be safely explored, processed, and integrated.

 

I don’t believe that therapy is a “one-size-fits-all” process. There’s no single approach or modality that will be effective for everyone or in every situation. Instead, I tailor my approach to meet each client’s unique needs, goals, and circumstances. In doing so, I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities I’m trained in, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).
